Before You Join Us
Does my child need acting experience to participate?
Absolutely not! We welcome actors of all experience levels. Some of our performers have been onstage for years, while others are stepping into the spotlight for the very first time. We’ll give all of our actors the tools, the practice, and the relationships they need to thrive.
Where do I find out about rehearsals, tickets, etc.?
Shortly before rehearsals start, we’ll email all participants a link to a Google Classroom. This is where the magic happens, so make sure you keep an eye out for that. We’ll post audition materials and music before we get started, plus the cast list, rehearsal schedules, and any updates. We also post choreography videos to help your child practice! Google Classroom is your one-stop shop for all things related to your show.

How does casting work?
Casting is based on a variety of factors, including the needs of the production, each actor's audition, and the overall ensemble. Every role is important, and we work hard to give every actor opportunities to shine.
We double cast most of our larger productions, with many children cast in both a primary role and also an ensemble role. This inclusive philosophy provides more casting opportunities while reinforcing the concept that all parts of the production are important.
When the cast list is posted in Google Classroom (typically a few days after auditions), you'll see two columns. Be sure to look for your child's name in both! The heading at the top of each column will tell you which performance they'll be in and which role they'll play.
Does my child have to attend every rehearsal?
Shows are a team effort, so consistent attendance is very important. We'll provide the rehearsal schedule at the first rehearsal so you can plan; please share any conflicts as early as possible. Life happens - in case of illness or unforeseen circumstances, please let your director know. In many circumstances, your child can practice with another cast to make up the missed rehearsal.
How can I talk to someone at the theater?
During rehearsals, our team is busy working with your kids, so we may not be able to answer the phone or respond to messages right away. If there's an emergency during rehearsals, please contact us at 860-500-7069. For everything else, email us at nctc1617@gmail.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
Rehearsal FAQs
Are parents able to watch rehearsals?
Rehearsals are not open to spectators, including parents. Currently, our rehearsal environment does not have a waiting area, so we invite you to go to the grocery store, run an errand, or catch up on a good book in the car while you wait! We'll bring the kids to the door to meet you when rehearsal ends.
What should my child wear to rehearsals?
Comfortable clothes and shoes they can move in (NO crocs or sandals)! Rehearsals can involve dancing, games, blocking, and plenty of activity, and we want to make sure everyone’s safe.
What should my child bring to rehearsal?
Please bring a labeled water bottle, the script, and a pencil.
What is your smartphone policy?
To help minimize distraction in our short rehearsal time, NCTC is screen-free. Phones will be turned in at sign-in and returned at the end of rehearsal, and we ask that you leave smart watches at home.
Do I provide costumes?
We’ll take care of that! For performances, we ask that our actors wear black shorts, a white tank top, and black or neutral shoes. We’ll provide all other costume pieces.
Showtime and Beyond
Where can I find information about tickets and performances?
Performance dates, ticket information, and other show details will be posted in the Google Classroom and emailed out in advance.
What else should I know about being part of NCTC?
Theatre is a wonderful way for kids to build confidence, make friends, and have fun! We look forward to welcoming your children and you to the family. We are a nonprofit with just two full-time staff members and a volunteer board of directors, so we’d love for you to join our team. Whether you want to build sets, sew costumes, solicit sponsors, or work the concessions, your help would be appreciated!
(As an added bonus, if you volunteer to help with the box office or concessions at a show, you’ll get a free ticket to the performance.)
